Gouldsboro has submitted a draft of its revised Comprehensive Plan to the State of Maine for review. The Plan presents a vision for Gouldsboro’s desired future and suggests ways to realize it. Here we present a copy you can read or download.
A Coastal Planning and Protection Reserve Fund
Gouldsboro residents will decide whether they want to establish a Coastal Planning and Protection Reserve Fund at the town meeting on the evening of June 11. This post explains how the town would utilize the funds placed in the reserve fund. It also explains why having such a fund is necessary.
Outcomes from the First Harbor Resilience Meeting
On May 17, 26 participants, mainly fishermen, convened to discuss harbor infrastructure improvements for Gouldsboro over the next decade. Key issues included dredging needs, public launch ramps, and a needed pier in South Gouldsboro. After assessing costs and feasibility, we will reconvene this fall to recommend investment priorities for the town's harbor facilities.
Meet your Local Clams!
On Sunday, July 30th, Gouldsboro Shore welcomed community members to a Schoodic Arts event in Prospect Harbor's Methodist Church to meet, eat, and learn about soft-shell clams. Twenty-seven people attended, along with twelve volunteers to staff information tables.
A Day on the Flats
During the early mornings of June 8th and 9th, groups of 8th-grade students from the Charles M. Sumner Learning Campus filed off their school bus and onto Prospect Harbor’s mudflats. Quadrants hung off of shoulders, and data sheets flapped in the breeze. A survey of green crab populations was about to take place.
Addressing Change in Gouldsboro
A Sunday workshop at Peninsula School brought Gouldsboro residents together to talk about change. They considered impacts of sea level rise, severe storms, rising house prices, broadband, food insecurity, and the future of the old cannery. If you missed it, this will catch you up.
Planning for Gouldsboro’s Future
Gouldsboro invites all residents to an informal planning workshop at Peninsula School in Prospect Harbor on Sunday, May 21, 2023. The workshop is the first step toward using the "Vulnerability Assessment and Action Plan" report that the Town received from FB Environmental last fall. The workshop will engage participants in considering and prioritizing the actions recommended by FB Environmental. Members of the FB Environmental team that wrote the report will be on hand to answer questions.

A Climate Resiliency Vulnerability Assessment and Action Plan for Gouldsboro
