Gouldsboro will kick off its Corea Harbor Resilience project at the Black Duck Inn in Corea on Sunday, August 25th, at 4 PM. The project will identify the best, most feasible ways to modify the Crowley Island Causeway and the Corea-Cranberry Point-Francis Harbor road junction to withstand large storms and sea level rise. The goal for this first meeting is to bring together people who are interested in shaping the town’s plans for these two locations.
Gouldsboro’s Coastal Resilience Committee and engineers and hydrologists from Streamworks PLLC and FB Environmental Associates make up the Project Team. Over the coming months, the project’s work will build on four meetings with Gouldsboro residents and other stakeholders between now and June 2025.
- Kickoff Meeting – August 25th at 4 PM – Get in touch with people who want to participate in identifying and selecting alternative solutions; meet the Project Team; provide an overview of how the project will do its work.
- Alternatives Development Meeting – November 2024 – Generate alternative design ideas and begin a conversation about their pros and cons.
- Alternatives Review Meeting – Late winter or early spring – The Project Team will work through the ideas from the second meeting to identify the five most feasible alternatives — two for the junction and three for the causeway — and will develop cost estimates and projections about how each alternative might do in a storm. Residents and other stakeholders will use these data and projections to identify a preferred alternative for each location.
- Final Stakeholder Presentation – May or June 2025 – The Project Team will present revised renderings of the preferred alternatives, estimates about project costs, and a plan moving forward.
The Black Duck Inn is located at 36 Crowley Island Road in Corea. Parking in Corea is limited, so if you plan to arrive by car, please consider carpooling.
