The Hancock County Planning Commission (HCPC), in combination with Acorn Engineering, will present a shoreline stabilization workshop at Bold Coast Seafood in Prospect Harbor on Wednesday, October 14, at 5 PM. This is the second of three workshops HCPC is presenting this fall to address shoreline erosion issues on the Schoodic Peninsula. In this workshop, participants will learn about various stabilization strategies for coastal dune and bluff systems and how to select an appropriate approach for their property. Workshop leaders will demystify the regulation and permitting processes involved in shoreline stabilization projects and will work with participants to explore the costs and benefits of various stabilization methods. Finally, participants will learn about potential funding sources for planning, design, and implementation.
The workshops are open to anyone interested in learning about shoreline stabilization and will provide information that may be particularly useful to municipal officials, staff, committee members, and volunteers. For more information and to register, see the HCPC workshop announcement.
The initial workshop provided participants with a list of links to shoreline planning resources that might be useful for anyone interested in developing stabilization plans for their property.
